Hyporheic Flow Demonstration Site in Pingtung, Taiwan

◎ Models Installed: AF Series - Submersible Sewage / Wastewater Pumps

◎ Description:

In 2021, Taiwan experienced the worse drought in 100 years. The island went into water ration, causing business suspensions and severely impacting the agriculture sector, prompting the planning for sustainable water use. The Pingtung County government projected to stabilize the water supply in Southern Pingtung by constructing a hyporheic demonstration site. This site will satisfy 40,000 residents’ daily water needs with 10,000m3 of water after completion. The water level of the river and hyporheic flow influence each other. During the dry season, the river water level is lower, making the hyporheic flow water level lower. The team applied the radial jet drilling method and installed HCP PUMP AF Series 30kW AF-1040 and 45kW AF-1060 for 16m and 24m head. The team also reserved the space for more water collecting pipes to maximize the site’s water supply to 100,000m3 in the future. Hyporheic flow facility has a relatively lower impact on the ecosystem, a shorter construction time, and is more sustainable, compared to traditional projects like dams. In addition, hyporheic water is readily available year-round with constant water quality, offering more resilience against extreme weather, and keeping the residents from water shortage.
